REPORTING ON CHILDREN'S PROGRESS

< Contents                                                 Forward >

Your child's progress through the Primary years needs to be undertaken with the closest partnership between home and school.  The school's policy seeks to encourage your involvement at every stage.  Each child's learning is assessed regularly in order to help the class teacher select appropriate levelled tasks and activities which will help him or her learn most effectively.  When children enter the school in Reception, they are already part of the Foundation Stage.  If they have attended playgroup or a nursery, records of your child’s achievement will be passed to us.  During the final year of the Foundation Stage (YR) their teachers will complete the Foundation Stage Profile. This will be shared with Parents at the end of the year.  Progress is also assessed at 11 in the National Curriculum Tests, results are given in levels, and we will be happy to discuss these with you.  At the end of KS1 (age 7 approx.) this is done through tasks and is based on teacher assessments. At the end of KS2 (age 11 approx.) this is completed more formally through externally assessed tests.  An Open Evening when you are invited to view your child's work will take place in the autumn term.  You are very welcome to discuss your child's work with the class teacher. Should you have any concerns or wish to discuss your child’s progress, please telephone the school for an appointment.  Should we become aware of any problems, you can be sure we will discuss the matter with you.  In the spring term a written report is sent to parents on Maths, English, Science, and Personal & Social development.  This mid-year report will include specific targets for your child to work on.  Progress on these and reports on all the other subjects will be completed towards the end of the summer term.  In the spring term there will be a day closure when you can come in and see your child’s work and have a meeting with your child’s teacher.
