Week beginning 20th April
Hi KS1! All of us teachers have really enjoyed getting to grips with class dojo and finding out all the fantastic things that you have been doing. All of the messages, photos and responses have been very uplifting! It is fantastic to see you all having such a lovely time with your families!
This week would have been our first week of the summer term! Our new topic was going to be ‘Born to be Wild’. Through this topic we wanted to learn about animals all over the world, looking at the 7 continents and the 5 oceans. We were going to compare and contrast the UK to a non-European country and look at animals and how they adapt to live in hot and cold countries.
In science, we were going to be focusing on habitats and how animals adapt to survive in their habitat. We were also going to explore how environmental change can affect the animals that live there.
At the bottom there a new challenge sheet that will give you some ideas for the following week linked to what we would have been learning at school.
The White Rose Maths website is fantastic and has brilliant problem solving challenges for each day of each week of home learning:
You do not need to print these, the children can just write the answers in their home learning books, however if you wish to print them then the option is there.
BBC Bitesize are also releasing daily lessons in lots of subjects starting on Monday.
Don’t forget to look on Purple Mash at the 2do’s that have been set and Class Dojo to see what your child's class teacher is saying!
Wednesday 22nd April 2020
I know that some parents were asking about reading books and I know that lots of you have explored Oxford Owl which is allowing you to access all their colour banded reading books for free at the moment but some people have reported it being quite slow.
Here is another useful reading book site.....The link below will take you to Collins Big Cat books which are available just now using the login below:
Username: email@example.com Password: Parents20!
The books on this website are also colour banded and have worksheets to go with the books.
Any reading you are doing, including books from home is fabulous!
We also wanted to point parents in the direction of this website, if you haven't already found it. It is literally a teachers best friend! www.twinkl.co.uk
You normally have to pay for it but at the moment they are allowing you to register for free and it is definitely worth it! You can use it for all areas of the curriculum. Hope that this helps!
Remember, this time is uncertain and unusual however it is very rare that we get to spend this much time with our loved ones so it is also precious time that we can use to enjoy our families and be thankful for one another. I know that lots of you have been learning valuable life skills which is incredible! Whatever you’re choosing to do with this time, I think we are all learning new things and that means everyone is doing a fantastic job! Keep smiling, loving and learning.
