Hello everyone,
Thank you all so much for sharing all of your fantastic Minibeast learning on Tapestry. It is lovely to see what you have all been up to and great to see that you have all been working so hard.
Next week, we will start a new topic, People who help us. You might want to start by asking your child to write a list of all the jobs involving people who help and then they can find out a bit more about what these jobs involve. In maths, we will be doing some work around the story of The Hungry Caterpillar as a bit of an overlap from last week's topic.
In phonics, we will be continuing to recap on some more Phase 3 sounds. As well as a digraph (two letters make one sound), this week, we will also be working on a trigraph (three letters make one sound). Our sounds for this week are igh and oa. Here are some words using this week's sounds:
igh |
oa |
high |
coat |
sigh |
load |
light |
goat |
might |
loaf |
night |
road |
right |
soap |
sight |
oak |
fight |
toad |
tight |
foal |
tonight |
boatman |
It has been great to see some of you making up some fun games to help your children to recognise sounds in words. In school, we often use sound buttons to help each sound stand out within a word. Under a single letter sound, we would put a dot and if more than one letter makes a sound we put a line under the digraph or trigraph. This helps to show that they need to look for digraphs/trigraphs in words as well as sounding out individual letters.
As you will all know, Friday will be the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, so we have included a few activities you may wish to use to help to teach your child about this special day.
Hope you all have a great week!
