Parents as partners

"Research tells us that regardless of the quality of settings, the most important predictor of children’s future outcomes is the quality of the home learning environment, so involving parents in their children’s learning is the most significant factor in enabling children to do well despite disadvantage."  Birth- 5 Matters 2021.

We feel that it is vital that we recognise the important role that parents play in their children’s early development and education and give priority to working with parents.

"Research tells us that regardless of the quality of settings, the most important predictor of children’s future outcomes is the quality of the home learning environment, so involving parents in their children’s learning is the most significant factor in enabling children to do well despite disadvantage."

At St Thomas More's we seek to involve parents in their child's learning as much as possible.  We use the following strategies regularly to work in partnership with parents:

  • Offering Parent workshops in Early Reading and Maths.
  • Organising a Home Visit for each and every child.
  • Being available on the playground each morning.
  • Assigning a keyperson to each child.
  • Arranging parent meetings regularly.
  • Stay & Play sessions
  • 'Bedtime Reading' events.
