Educational Health Care Plans

Sometimes, an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) is useful in supporting children whose needs are beyond ordinarily available provision. An EHCP does not guarantee children have 1:1 support every day. In fact, this is rarely in the best interests of the child. However, what it does do is outline the legal provision for the child.

The first step in the process is to request an Educational Heath Needs Assessment (EHNA). This Local Authority carries out this Needs Assessment. They may feel that the child's needs can be met within Ordinarily Available Provision, and therefore an EHCP would not be suitable.
